We want you to (re-)connect with yourself and we're here to help you with that & show you how

Connect with Yourself

A big part of life is connecting with others. Making friends, falling in love, spending time with family, etc. However, there is one particular person that you may have neglected creating a strong connection with: yourself.

Self love and self connection are things that many of us, myself included, struggle with. In order to help you through this struggle, we’ve compiled some tips on how to learn to love yourself. And, in the process, form a deeper connection with who you truly are.

Connecting with and knowing your true self is important. Here's why.

Something has been holding you back from taking care of yourself. And if you're like me and many others who deal with this issue, then I know what that something is: you prioritize others over yourself, always, and never take the time to focus on your own needs. Selflessness by itself is by no means a negative trait. In fact, we could use less selfish people in the world. However, not considering yourself a priority at all is highly unhealthy. Not just for you, but for those around you as well.

When you neglect your own well-being, a whole array of problems ensue sooner or later. Feelings of depression, guilt, inadequacy, stress, and other negative emotions start to plague you. Having no connection with your inner self creates a void, and you may start to cling to others to try and fill that void. This causes you to become dependent on other people for your own happiness and personal fulfillment. And this can lead to some very toxic relationships; for example, people may take advantage of your dependence and become controlling. It can also lead to other negative changes in yourself. You may become a toxic person, or you may start to isolate yourself.

In other words, when you don't connect with yourself, you will lose yourself. You will lose that kind hearted person you truly are and will be overcome by the negative emotions associated with a lack of self love.

We're here to give you permission to indulge in self-care.

See, self care is nowhere near selfish. You are a human being who needs to be taken care of just as much as anyone else. And when you form a connection with yourself through practicing self care and self love, you become the best person you can be. You gain a feeling of fulfillment and independence. You don't have a need to rely on anybody for your own happiness. And that leads to a healthy life and healthy relationships.

So, now you know why connecting with yourself is an important, healthy choice. Here are some ways you can go about doing this:

Recognize your emotions

Emotions are an important thing. They are the connection between the physical body and the soul. Happiness, sadness, anger, excitement... These feelings are a big part of what it means to be a human being. Which is why it is very important that your emotions, particularly the not-so-pleasant ones, are acknowledged and handled in a healthy, productive manner.

Since there are so many harmful ways of expressing sadness and anger, we may be inclined to completely hide those feelings. To repress them and pretend they aren't there. But this only leads to more problems in the long run. This buildup of negativity will grow and grow until, eventually, you won't be able to take it anymore, and could potentially lash out.

To avoid this, allow yourself to feel whatever it is you're feeling. If you're feeling sad, put aside some time to vent to a trusted friend or family member. Have some time alone to cry. This may sound counterproductive, but listen to a sad song or two. Hearing someone express their own feelings of sadness could help you feel less alone during whatever you may be going through.

If you're feeling angry, listen to some loud music. You could also vent, or write down your feelings, or even scream into a pillow. Exercise is also a healthy way to let off some steam.

It is true that there are toxic ways of expressing negative feelings. However, in order to prevent an eventual lash-out or breakdown, practice healthy methods of expression. Recognize what you're feeling and find productive, helpful ways to work through them. Finding what helps you during a season of negativity is a good step towards creating that connection with your inner self.

Speak self love into reality

This is a simple yet effective way to learn to love yourself. Every morning and every evening for the span of 30 days, look at yourself in the mirror and say at least one positive thing about yourself. This will help you to hone in on and acknowledge the positive things about yourself that you might not have noticed before. And this will lead to a stronger sense of self worth and, of course, self love.

Meditate

Meditation is a healthy habit with healthy results. Frequently taking the time to meditate has an array of health benefits, studies have found. The following are some examples:

  • Stress and anxiety reduction: Taking the time to be at peace and just breathe is a great way to reduce built up stress and anxiety.
  • Gaining a more positive outlook on life: Meditation has also been known to help with feelings of depression and general sadness. It allows you to hone in on positivity and peace.
  • Increased kindness: Due to the increase of positive feelings, meditation also leads to increased kindness, as negative feelings towards others have lessened.

And, most importantly for the purpose of this project: Meditation promotes increased self-awareness. When you meditate, you aren't just reducing stress; you are also clearing your mind, your focus being on you and your surroundings. And being aware of the aspects of who you are leads to a stronger relationship with your inner, true self.

Allow yourself to rest; you aren't a machine.

Working hard is not a bad thing in the slightest. By itself, that is. However, if you are tired, allow yourself to take a break. Relax, get some sleep, read, or meditate. There is no shame in taking some time for yourself.

Letting yourself rest is necessary for multiple reasons. Firstly, if you don't let yourself take a break from whatever tasks are wearing you down, your performance at those tasks will decrease, and you could get burnt out. Secondly, and most importantly: You are a human being, not a robot. And human beings need sleep and rest.

To reiterate a previous point: getting enough sleep is part of practicing self care, and self care is not selfish.

It’s OK To Feel Good

Think about the things that make you happy. A hobby you might enjoy, your favorite TV show or movie, music that makes you want to get up and dance around in your pajamas, etc. Now, set aside some time to spend with those very things. Letting yourself focus on the things that bring you joy and happiness is a good way to connect with yourself as well as forget about any negativity for a while.

Cultural Impact

There are many factors that affect our health and happiness. The most common factors include sleep, stress, eating habits, and environment. When it comes to skincare we tend to think that since we\re not consuming the product orally, the ingredients won’t affect us. However, the skin is the largest organ in the body, therefore it absorbs a lot of what you put onto it.

What you apply to your body has an impact on your overall health. We don’t need a ton of chemicals to enhance ourselves. That’s why we’re here to shift the mindset away from over-the-counter offerings towards a natural approach to skincare products. There’s no prescription necessary to use any of our products. This Place’s remedies are available whenever, wherever they’re needed, just as nature intended. It\s not just simply another skincare product, but it’s made to be integrated into a way of life. Our products challenge social norms by opposing prescriptions and championing natural, CBD-infused solutions that are more than just a “quick fix”.
