The Skin Barrier: Your Personal Bodyguard

The skin is the largest organ in your body. Its barrier is located in the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of your skin. You can think of it as a brick wall of cells (the corneocytes), which are meant to protect your skin from external influences.

The "bricks" of the wall, i.e. the corneocytes, are held together by a "plaster" of various fats (lipids). Along with fatty acids and cholesterol, ceramides are one of the most important lipids of your skin barrier. Besides their protective function, they prevent your skin from losing too much moisture.

The stratum corneum is also home to a variety of different microorganisms. In a healthy skin flora, the "good" bacteria predominate and keep the "bad" bacteria, which can damage your skin, in check.

How do you recognise a damaged skin barrier – and what can you do about it?

Environmental factors such as cold, wind and UV radiation as well as excessive washing with drying products or hot water can damage your skin barrier.

Furthermore, your skin's natural ceramide production decreases with age. Signs of a damaged skin barrier include very dry, itchy or tight skin, as well as little blemishes or redness. Fortunately, there are things you can do to strengthen and restore your skin barrier.

Ceramide creams like Endless Ease can help improve the function of your skin barrier by replenishing or replacing your skin's natural ceramides, which may have been lost due to the aforementioned factors. In this way, ceramide-containing products can help to improve the skin's resilience and moisture retention, promoting a plump complexion.

Your natural skin flora can also be supported by certain ingredients in cosmetics. For example, by using the Lactococcus Ferment in Endless Ease. This soothing ingredient can prevent inflammation by strengthening the skin barrier and also protect your skin from harmful environmental influences and their effects.

  • Are you pregnant or breastfeeding and wondering whether you should use our CBD-containing products during this time?

First of all: Congratulations - you are about to experience the miracle of life up close! Unfortunately, this also means that at this point in time we cannot recommend our products to you with a clear conscience. This is not because CBD is known to harm your child; but rather that the research on this particular point is still not enough to say. This means that even if negative effects have not yet been observed, it cannot be ruled out that this could still happen in the future. The well-being of our customers is always our top priority. Until the last doubt is dispelled, it will stay that way: We cannot recommend any products containing CBD to pregnant or breastfeeding women.
